Lunedì, il 14 di Settembre, 1942 I am pleased that, if nothing else, we'll all finally be getting some decent exercise here. And seeing Miss Umbridge lugging herself around the field this morning is almost as good as hearing that Wood's in the infirmary after his flogging. Of course I can't stop her hissing whatever her poison is to Miss Bones, but I won't let her think that she can do it openly. The run was hard on many of the girls and even some of the boys: Dumbledore has been unforgivably lax. Katya and also Miss Popescu will probably be running with us for a while before the other girls even begin to catch up with their training. Miss McGonagall is trying too hard if anything: it's stupid for her to be trying to run if her leg is still sore, and it obviously is, she's just making it worse and she's needed in places other than the infirmary. But she won't be able to hide it from Potter much longer. Her brother and also Lewis Diggory are good over short distances but fade too soon, typical Quidditch players that they are. Miss Kyteler is dreadfully unfit, which isn't surprising, I don't think any of us have seen her in anything other than long skirts for years, but she was working hard all the same, which is admirable. A lot of the younger girls didn't even bother trying to do more than Potter will let them get away with. Some soldiers House Gryffindor would make, if you caught us now. But this is promising. Domenica, il 13 di Settembre, 1942 I was hoping that things would look rather better without a hangover but actually, they look much the same. Alessio will not marry his beautiful warrior, but a Malfoy and a man, that is one difference, and now the beautiful warrior comes to school with us and will be in Katya's dorm as likely as not, and perhaps Bruno and Gallinaro will have one more girl if they are very fortunate. (I've often thought Adele Kyteler must be glad to have her own room, although perhaps Wood wasn't always, not with what he was missing out on.) And Silvia will be who she is and so will Dory, but we're never going to be going home again, I know this, and Nicodemo Zabini does too and I think so does La Donna. Silvia does not yet know why the Company girls leave school as soon as they can, why they eventually marry Company men whether they like us or not, why someone like the Diggory boy will come to despise them all. For that matter, why some men who've been at school, like Bruno and Gallinaro, are starting to bring girls home who aren't going to be arranging flowers and going to bed with just anyone who wants them until they marry. I cannot change her but I wish that that was not her fate. For all that, Santino is not sending the little girls back to school and I am heartily glad of it. The school is our entry to England, such as it is, but I do not value that over my sisters' safety. What caused this fire? The same as what killed all the girls? It must have been Wood's party, only someone like Miss McGonagall wouldn't think he was going to have it come what may, and he is every kind of stupid but not that kind, and besides he and Caroline must know enough dowsing charms between them. Pippa Brown died, and there were all those stories about her. What was she really? Current Mood: worried | | Sunday, January 20th, 2008 | | 9:03 am |
sabato 12 settembre 1942 I'm sure every man in the Manor is plotting to poison Bruno at the parties today, which is as well, because Potions was never my best subject, and I doubt I can do it myself. But it can't be a good idea for him to have turned half the journeymen at St Mungo's against him like that. Ow, my head. So Alessio is marrying a sixteen year old girl who is a beautiful warrior and a hero. And me, someday soon I suppose I'll be marrying some girl or other who was taking her clothes off last night, extra for anyone who brought her a drink. And one day our daughters will be doing the same thing as likely as not. Silvia already thinks that it's nothing surprising, just some fun, and given enough time here Dory will undoubtedly follow. And so it goes. Beautiful day for a wedding. Current Mood: hungover | | Wednesday, August 15th, 2007 | | 11:30 am |
martedì 8 settembre 1942 I spent this last weekend with my sisters. Dory is doing very well, considering, and La Donna visited and spoke to her about what it will mean for her to be a member of her household. This is just as well, as Silvia's account of the life is coloured by the most exciting points of difference from Dory's own experiences together with what Silvia herself wants from it: a man and babies, as soon as she might. She means to comfort Dory by showing her all the advantages of our life of course, but Dory needs an English take on the life as well. She slipped away to see Hubert Crockford a couple of times, but when I found them she seemed to accept that in future she needs to be chaperoned, which is just as well. Her affection for him is natural and good, but mustn't be nurtured any further. His selfishness would destroy it in the end in any case. This way is better. I must write to Mamma this evening, and Dory should too. I wish for Dory's sake we could all be at home. Current Mood: pleased | | Friday, May 4th, 2007 | | 8:09 am |

lunedì 31 agosto 1942 Hubert Crockford is lucky that we're not allowed to acknowledge his existence, for I know that he works in that print shop and knew exactly what they were going to print in that rag, and without the ban, I'd just about be like to kill him for what he and his parents have done to our baby sisters.
Silvia is inconsolable. We all know Dory is innocent, but I'm old enough to understand that the only way to reach people who would dare to print something like that is through their own blood, as they've no concern at all for anyone else's. There is no way to explain something like that to my little sister. Even if Silvia weren't a little slow sometimes (and who wouldn't seem slow, next to Lucius and Fiammetta), she's still too kind and good for times like these. I've never seen my mother so furious in all my life. She thought of Mrs Crockford as a good friend, and was angry that Donna Dracaena wouldn't let Hubert and Dory come visit us. Now, of course, she's completely reversed her position.
I have to admit to a certain feeling of relief that Dalton Dursley won't be fostered here, though I could wish that he were not a guest as well; he takes such pleasure in tormenting Silvia about that "Bambi" that I would dearly love to thrash him.
I know that Demetria is still fond of Crockford, no matter what she says. I realise, of course, that she wouldn't look at him any more than she would at me. Neither one of us is nearly good enough for her; she's a noblewoman, and I'm a man-at-arms, and even though Bastiana married Santino, that's not going to happen twice in one household. But if they really mean to marry her to Dolohov...

sabato 22 agosto 1942 I should get a gift for Don Zabini but I can think of nothing adequate! I need to clean my dress robes. I should be doing something useful! So many wonderful things happening all at once! Yet actually I'm dreadfully nervous. After all I've been no good at all helping to take care of the family, much less anyone else. martedì 18 agosto 1942 I think the Ducases are moving in. At the least it appears that Zia Alessandra is! It seems that the Magister has been thrown out by his lady wife and Zia Alessandra feels that he has taken over as the Head of household, and wants to remove herself and her daughters. I cannot blame her, though this is going to be awkward. Especially as Demetria is here too, though she is very cross about it. But something else has also happened, there was apparently shouting and ruckus and some people came and were hustled in at Zia Lavinia's very early this morning around dawn.
I shall call on them a bit later in the day and see if I can find out what is happening. First let me see how much Mamma knows.
And try to pretend Demetria is not sleeping here. | | Monday, January 9th, 2006 | | 10:47 pm |
martedì 11 agosto 1942 There's an argument going on over at Zia Lavinia's house between her and Zia Alessandra, and has been for a few days. I've been warned to keep my nose out of it - as if I were foolish enough to charge into such a battle! Perhaps some of us younger lot to take a day for a change of scenery and clearer heads? Though from some of the hints I might have to take a stick to beat people off with if I were to consider acting as a chaperone.
Damned Gryffindor restlessness. Why do I always end up writing here when I'm chafing to be active? I should be working on something I suspect. And I worry too much. But I thought things were going so well. Everyone was happy and excited. This too shall pass.

venerdì 7 agosto 1942 Fia seems to be having a very nice time for her birthday. It was nice to have everyone together and a it less worried than they have been of late, though Fia seemed uncharacteristically thoughtful through much of it. Zia Lavinia was feeling better, though, and made sure the party was as brilliant as it could possibly be.
I got Fia a book, which I'm sure she fears will be dreadfully dull. But it's a book of stealth charms and countercharms, which might spark a bit more interest. It also has a section of wards to detect malicious intent, which was what drew my eye. I fear it was not a new book, but it was good quality and looks accessibly written. I took a few notes myself! As hard as it is to learn anything useful in "Defence"... Well. Why bother saying it? Hopefully she'll find something fun informative anyway.
Mercutio brought Mr Riddle - Slytherin, fourth or fifth year I think - over. I don't believe I've spoken to him much before but I know him to greet. He was very nice and took being overwhelmed with the mob with aplomb and seemed to enjoy being here so I hope he comes again though he didn't stay late.
I hope Zia Lavinia is well, she seems much more distracted than usual. But perhaps it's having so much work to do? But of course "Everything is fine" so I mustn't fuss.
Well, at least there is no lack of work about. I haven't been around as much as I ought with trying to keep plenty of odd jobs, but the extra Sickles have been rather nice. I'll miss work a bit when we go back to Hogwarts actually. But I'm definitely finishing school! Despite so many people running off to join the war effort. If nothing else Mamma would throttle me, else.

venerdì 31 luglio 1942 Silvia has received her Hogwarts letter, which is unsurprising yet still manages to come as a relief. I wonder if she and her friends would like help going to Diagon Alley to get their things? Probably not, after all who wants to be seen with one's dull big brother. Heh. Still, I think I will ask; she seems a bit nervous. Perhaps it is just because of the debacle with the muggle cinema though.
I'm sure Lucius Malfoy will be starting this year too. I wonder if there is anything I could do to help him adjust? I suspect school will be very strange to him.
For myself, I wish the year would come more quickly. It was bad enough with most of my friends silent due to Signora Zabini but with Charis in trouble too... sono morire dalla noia! So bored! Shouldn't the summer be more exciting than school? I feel I should be doing something, it's making me dreadfully restless. I want to get into trouble!
Heh. I suppose I should be revising. NEWTs don't write themselves, and perhaps if I work now I'll have more time for things during the year.
